Just a quick post for these since I am on a facebook break. School pictures for A and K. What a rip off. If I had been in a portrait studio and/or with a real photographer for these, I would have been saying no for so many reasons. A is making a funny face. K was supposed to wear his fleece pullover over his by-now-vintage Hogle Zoo tee.
And yet, they are so, so cute, funny smiles and all.
I'm going to have to take S and Z into JCPenney or (gulp) WalMart or something to get fall portraits, I think. I meant to do that last year, but never did. Even with what those cost, I bet I will save money over the stupid school picture package. I am a sucker.

School "Portraits" are a total ripoff. HUGE, even! But... if you volunteer to help the photographer on picture day, you get free pics for your kids. At least, you do here. K looks great, but WTH with Abe's face? Photog must've been drunk!
I have declared a moratorium against all school pictures, until they actually start taking quality shots or I burn out taking my own. Seriously, go find some gorgeous leaves, (not too hard right now) and your digital camera and you will take infinitely better pics than "portraits r us" ever will. But if you like the wow,-I-had-no-idea-my-child-was-so-unphotogenic variety, school pics will never fall short. Just ask me about the "scary chipmunk" photos from kindergarten.
HP4thward, thanks for your comment. I am trying to figure out if I am related to you (my grandma was born an Allred) or if I know you some other way, or if you're just an otherwise-unconnected visitor? Regardless, nice to see/meet you ...
Sorry, I (liz irvine shaw) am the mysterious commenter. I run our RS blog and am too lazy to get another gmail account. So yep, we're related!
Update: I've remedied the obscure name situation. Although it was kind of fun to cause a little confusion now and then.
Ah, the truth comes out!
Awesome. Those are some fancy backdrops! The packages are a total scam, but I am of the camp that school photos are a rite of passage. I love having them all lined up against each other and seeing the progression of time. There is something different in their angle, cropping...I don't know exactly but I cherish having every year of my old school photos.
The backdrops looked less bright on the take-home sheet. Honest. I'm kinda with you, Lucy - I so loved the experience of getting my pictures back and sharing them with my friends ... I think that's why I always fork it over. Plus I like to send them to grandmas and grandpas and birthmoms.
